Q: What is functional medicine?

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, like looking at the roots of a tree. Our environment impacts us. When we modify our external and internal environments, we can modify our health.

Our environment impacts us. When we modify our external and internal environments, we can modify our health. Our internal environment consists of cells, nutrients, and neuro-chemical pathways.  Our external environment includes diet, nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, environmental toxins and our relationships. As functional medicine practitioners, we spend time listening to your history and looking at the effects of these environments.

Restoring health requires reversing, or substantially improving, any dysfunctions that have contributed to disease. Each patient has a unique set of environmental and lifestyle influences that have set the stage for the development of disease or the maintenance of health. Functional medicine also emphasizes the therapeutic partnership between you and your practitioner. This makes the healing faster and longer lasting.
